About Little Thunder Stables Little Thunder Stables focuses on equine hoof rehabilitation. If your horse has problems with cracks, chipping, flat feet, thin soles, laminitis, navicular or founder, we are here to help your horse heal. Exercise and movement with frequent trimming is a simplified explanation of our program. The mental health as well as the physical condition of each equine is the primary focus of Little Thunder Stables. Facilities
All equines have 24 hour turnout. They are provided with other “buddies” at the same stage of rehabilitation so they are encouraged to interact with the other horses which creates more movement and reduces stress during recovery. Stalls with rubber matting and private paddocks are available for observation and critical care. The barn is positioned on the highest part of the property for the best ventilation, and is equipped with fans and rubber matting throughout. A veterinarian is available at all times for consultation and care. Foot Bath The foot bath area, to the right, is used to keep the ph levels in the hoof uniform and consequently helps prevent bacteria from invading the hoof during the rehab period. One of the nice “off-shoots” of this is the fact that with moisture in the hoof, it becomes more pliable and flexible thus creating more mechanism inside the foot and that in turn encourages more circulation. More circulation means a quicker recovery time! Anderson Sling We are fortunate to have an Anderson Sling which is a wonderful support system for a horse that cannot stand or even those that can stand, but have so much pain they cannot support themselves on three feet while we trim one. It was developed by the University of California for long term “suspended” care for horses with broken legs, hips, etc. It has come in handy several times here and made trimming so much easier for a severely foundered horse. |
